Winter training
Winter training begins in October, taking place on Tuesday evenings, and continues through until March. During March the club launches it’s 6.5 meter RIB at Dunlaoire harbour where it is moored for the summer season. The boat is fully equipped for offshore wreck diving. We frequently remove the boat from Dunlaoire and tow it to remote destinations around the Irish coast in search of new and adventurous diving.
Projects
The club has been involved with underwater projects with IUART ( Irish Underwater Archaeological Research Team) in the past, most notably the location and survey of the PS Queen Victoria at Howth for the OPW (Duacas). A target project for ‘00 is the survey of the great ironclad battleship, HMS Vanguard, which lies in 40 meters of water off Bray Head. This is a lovely dive on a vessel very much intact.
Another project which is attracting interest this year is the hunt for the wreck of the "Arklow Sub" which apparantly sunk after shelling a munitions factory in Arklow during WWII.
The club members continue to have a strong interest in all matters with a historical maritime connection.
Holidays
Our club takes the opportunity each year to organise holidays abroad in such places as the Red Sea and the Mediterranean for it’s members. As the number of diving centres around the Irish coast continues to grow the club, we also trek on weekends away to these centres, some of which offer some of the best diving to be found in Europe and very reasonable packages.
We hope you will find our club’s activities of interest and if you wish to visit Dublin Bay we can promise you some very nice wreck diving.
Safe and enjoyable diving!
